Traditional shoelaces seem to us to be a product that we don't have to put any particular thought into buying. Most of us simply buy shoe laces without thinking about their quality or their very purpose. However, when we take a second to think about our choice, we realise that there are better and worse shoelaces.
First of all, it is always worth investing in laces which are sufficiently resistant to abrasion and mechanical damage. Such laces are usually braided from several layers and even if one of them gets abraded, the others are able to hold the knot whole. This avoids a situation during an excursion or a longer walk where you are suddenly left with an untied shoe. It is also an excellent idea to buy several laces of different colours, which we can freely match to our shoes. This is because shoe manufacturers often put standard white laces in their shoes. Meanwhile, the shoe itself, especially when kept in bold colours, can contrast favourably with laces in other colours.
